I really want to watch this because it looks amazing, but feel like it's bound to be GUT WRENCHING. When I told my ex my boundries, his exact reaction was to laugh at me. Then proceeded to break each one as if he was chrcking off a to-do list within the following week or two until I left Not sure im ready for the emotional devastation of watching this show just yet.

I just can’t wrap my head around it tho… Cathy is someone who will do whatever she pleases… Why did she agree to marry him in the first place? Why did she move? Why did she have kids? She’s not one to be confined if she does not want to be… so why?

If she wanted her independence she shouldn’t have married him…can’t believe people r excusing her…yes she told him she didn’t want to go but she never really explained she chose to go along knowing full well that she would hurt him…Adam was just a good person who wanted to see the good in her…he thought she was sick for not wanting the heaven he was giving her…u can’t say Cathy was just wrong she was evil evil evil… she druggged her husband to sleep with his brother…she tried to kill her kids before they were born…..she just kept getting worse n worse…like why would u poison someone who had already given u an inheritance?? She was a sick sick person and Adam didn’t know she was incapable of being loved…..I saw some comments of people saying Adam was worse 😳 how can u even compare the two…. Adam’s only crime was he saw good in people…he suffered depression when she left…depressed people avoid obligation bse their brain is overwhelmed with sadness and exhaustion…. It’s not until he confronts Cathy at the brothel that he got free from her n started living his life….you had what she said as he stormed out… I can still control you at the snap of my finger n u would come back crawling for me 😳You can see that even after what she did he still broke down when she died and claimed her body to give her a decent burial…

The twins have to be the brothers and he forced himself in her life. She never wanted any part of him and he rush into it

It also bugged me that he was so heartbroken over her leaving for 10 years!!!! 10 years he ignored his sons!!! Then when he stopped ignoring them he favored one over the other. This show has so many deep aspects to it. Lee was the only person I cared for in the show 💔

He was my least favorite character because he tried to appear righteous but became all the things he hated. What he did to Lee when he was leaving and saying goodbye to the boys, was just intentionally cruel.

he did exactly the same thing his father did ro him and Charles, he practically forced Kathy into a life she never wanted, she didn't need saving she was evil beyond description, he was not thankful ro Lee for raising his son's whike he wallowed for years .....he was just as bad

i don’t think leaving the children was really the worst thing at all, if anything it was probably the best thing she did for them even unintentionally, she did not want them, was in a situation she didn’t want to be in and knew there was something wrong with her that she wasnt going to be a good mother. If she had stayed it was inevitable she would’ve done something that would’ve seriously harmed them.

I agree 100%! And when the boys needed him most he was completely absent which is just as bad as Cathy abandoning them. I mean, how old were they when he finally named them? And he didn’t even pick the names. 🤦♀️

The whole point of this book is that everyone has good and bad and we decide how we want to deal with that. We all have trauma. I think that Americans have this idea that someone is either all “good” or “bad”. But in reality we are both.

i’m not even mad at you bc this is what the show is portraying but it’s so ungodly frustrating to see because from cathy’s perspective in the book you get more of an insight on just how deranged, manipulative and evil she is it’s so frustrating

All the main characters names in this story were initialed C & A - so it’s a constant Cain & Abel friction throughout the whole story…. Except Lee , the all wise mediator.

Adam a complex imperfect character, like most humans. No character analysis has considered him an “innocent victim.” “Good guy” and “villain” is 5th grade, Disney level story telling.
