Okay Im a little worried I didnt provide enough disclaimers or nuance that I am speaking about an average healthy relationship. In this theoretical example, partner A is appropriately trying to meet the needs of partner B, as well as expressing their own needs, and partner B is struggling. Despite Partner A’s appropriate attempts to meet Partner B’s nurture based emotional needs (like they are genuinely validating, reassuring, soothing, etc.) Partner B is feeling starved. Like the love, focus and attention that is being poured into them is running right through them, they cant hold onto it and keep it. And because theyre struggling, they have a lower capacity to respond to Partner A’s needs. This is tough because Partner A needs Partner B’s nurturance!
