My mom would give me 10 bucks in quarters and dimes and she would tell me that growing up when we would go on walks she would pray to find quarters and dimes on the ground to get us what we wanted

I always admired the books, I never looked at the pens, erasers or toys. Instead of being upset about not being able to buy anything during that book fair I would just pick a book and read it and when it was time to go I would just put it back. I remember one time they hosted it during Mother’s Day and they had flowers for you to buy for your mothers, my mom actually took time out her day and showed up and gave me money to buy, I was so excited but instead of buying all the books I wanted I bought her flowers, which was most of my budget. I just wanted to see my mom smile, because her even showing up in general and taking time away from her job meant the world to me.

i got a traumatizing beating when i was younger for spending $20 my mom gave me & she told me to spend only $10 ,, i was a little kid just excited n distracted to get stuff at the book fair. Will never forget how bad she hurt me that day :’/ never would i do my child like that… especially over some damn book fair money

my parents would make me circle stuff then never get it for me. sometimes I would do it for fun just bc I liked the thought of my parents actually getting me something I wanted but it never happened they also never gave me money to the book far so I had to steal a lot lol

This made me cry, I was the oldest of 9. I would just go just to see and pretend like I was going to buy something just for the fun of but could never buy anything. I never even asked because I knew we couldn’t afford it

I remember sitting and watching all the other kids get stuff and then some girl gave me like 5 bucks to get a chocolate calculator I’ll never forget that… I’m making sure to go to my sons first book fair and buying him anything he wants
