@nah_dee_ah: Its sad to see our culture and traditions slowly get lost with every generation…Our forefathers fought tirelessly for our independence, have our own traditions, language and culture and unfortuntaley its all slowly fading. We can only do so much to teach our kids, however the truth is, they are growing up in a fast paced world where they will be immered in a very western environment. #bengali #bangladesh #language #fyp #sylheti

Don’t care about hosting. No need to entertain toxic family members.

I think the new hosting era now is everyone bring a dish and it’s so easier. Nothing wrong with hosting but should be easy and manageable without the hundred of dishes being cooked

Im so sorry but I have to disagree with this. Me and ALL my cousins speak bangla well for people who were born and raised outside BD. And we all have at least one parent that was also born and raised outside of BD. I have every intention of making sure my children can speak bangla as well. I completely get they may not choose to do hold on the language as adults but they won’t stop with me.

It will not be forgotten there are other ethnicities who are able to maintain their native language, food, culture. You should speak with your children in your native tongue and feed them the food. It's down to the parents.

The good thing is the written language will always be there, so even for kids who weren't encouraged to learn it when young, they can always learn it when older. The spoken language is a bit of an issue, as you can't really learn it from books/courses, but social media can possibly help as you have a whole host of people speaking the native language online. The hosting one is very sad though, before the hosting was a regular and natural experience, nowadays you're not hosting for the guests and company, you're hosting to post it on your reels and showcase it to your imaginary audience online!

I think its down to you as a parent, if youre not invested, your kids won’t! Its like trying to teach them how to ride a bike, you have to invest in the time. Don’t give up!

We should try to teach our children bangla. They will be leaning French and german in school, why cant we make effort to teach Bangla. Being bilingual is a good thing.

I think it's more the case, that when we die, all we gonna take to our grave is our religion not our culture. The culture itself couldn't hold onto what the religion expects of us. Too much back biting an gossiping an putting people down damaged the culture. Where during our parents time, none of that existed as much as it does now. There no respect for own people anymore cause people outside culture treat u more like a family than your own family an that is the sad world we live in

for language if we keep the mother tongue language in the house and English out the house is a way to keep the kids learning it or even have two day a week your only allowed to speak bangla in the house and no other language

My kids eat fish curries, and I have to cook everything low spice as my husband can’t eat spicy food (he gets VERY bad gastric pain) I think my youngest can handle spicy food as I eat spicy foods and she eats from me 😂😂 100% on speaking Bengali cause even though I live with my MIL and she talks to them in Bengali my kids find it hard to understand and it’s mine and my husband’s fault for only speaking English to them 😭😭
