Why are people still insisting that Zoro and Sanji “aren’t equals” in 2026? Oda has consistently established their relationship as one built around rivalry, competition, and mutual strength. Anyways aside from the facts that this guy’s saying, Zoro has trained in swordsmanship since childhood and has dedicated his life to becoming stronger. Sanji, however, has repeatedly kept up with him without relying on his Germa modifications or awakening. During the timeskip, the Straw Hats also trained according to their individual goals. Zoro focused on his swordsmanship, while Sanji chose to develop his cooking skills under Ivankov’s conditions. Their different training paths do not automatically mean that one is inherently superior to the other. Even after the timeskip, Zoro and Sanji continued to serve as the two primary fighters capable of supporting and protecting Luffy when the situation demanded it. Their roles within the crew consistently reflect their importance as Luffy’s strongest combat partners. And let’s be honest, Zoro and Sanji have constantly fought and competed with one another, but when have we ever actually seen one decisively defeat the other in respective fighting styles? We haven’t.
There is nothing wrong with debating individual feats, matchups, or who may have the advantage in a particular situation. But claiming that they are completely different levels of strength ignores the way Oda has consistently portrayed their dynamic throughout the story.
Zoro and Sanji are rivals who push each other forward, complement each other, and stand as the two wings of the Pirate King. That dynamic speaks for itself.
