@taylormarienorwood: how do you film your painting process ๐ถโ๐ซ๏ธ I feel like it would take me out of the flow to just film small parts of it but I haven't had much success with filming the entire thing + my phone storage gets obliterated #paintingprocess #paintingtimelapse #paintingtutorial #filmingtips #contenttips
Haha I started and gave up so i could enjoy the work itself

@Roya Nava | Author ๐๏ธ๐จ๐ฆ: I hate it! I do digital paintings mostly and I like to cuddle up on the couch and basically just hide in the screen!!! Which nothing for content!the other day I tried to do the whole painting in a way that I could setup a camera and โtape the processโ, it was awkward, I had to sit at the desk,in a very unnatural way and every stroke felt weird! I decided it was done way before am usually done with it so the final was not what I wanted.

Twenty years ago an amazing abstractionists from Moscow exclaimed โyou have to record your processโ I tried. As others have described, it screws up your output. I even just tried recording my voice. Similar results. My theory: when recorded, there is an evaluative, questioning process that kicks in - that displaces the creative/joyful one. For some things a compromise is not worth it.

I put mine on timelapse, I feel less self conscious cause it doesnโt record audio and it moves fast

When I start a painting I like to have the camera on for a couple of minutes for the e pressure underpainting, and then Iโll usually do close ups with different brushstrokes all during the first half of the painting and then skip to a couple of close ups details and then reveal โบ๏ธI hate it too, but I find this works so I donโt have to think about anything for like 70% of the painting

I have a phone and an iPad, I'll put my phone on a stand/tripod thing and watch tv/look at my reference on my iPad! Then I'll edit the video on my iPad :) I also will film in chunks sometimes so I can edit easier. I also hate doing it LOL!! I also sometimes comment on videos I really like and just straight up ask how they filmed and edited and I typically get a really thoughtful response!

I think the key is to set up in a way that doesn't obstruct your usual way of painting, and then lots of editing and cutting out bits you don't like๐ซฃ but it's always easier said then done, hope you'll figure it out๐ฅฐ

Iโm a artist and I hate filming lol I feel like social media made it normalize that it has to look so aesthetic pleasing so you get better engagement and Iโm just tired and just gonna vlog my art process

I also paint almost exclusively at night and want to show the final result during daylight so thereโs a lighting disconnect. ๐ฅฒ

People love a trust the process! I set up my phone where the painting is visible on the camera and every once in a while I just record for a few seconds

Sameeee i struggle with this but what works for me is having a tripod on my desk where i can plug my phone/camera. And just record for a minute in different parts of the painting ๐

Totally get it. for me I do spray paint out in the garage that our dogs also use so I have to reset up cameras and lights every time and it honestly sometimes takes longer to do that than film. Oh and the storage space! As soon as i edit and post i delete it. Which can bite you later but thays later me problem. For me there are 100s of spray paint tutorials and the world doesn't need more, so I just paint. I do some before, in-between and after scenes but for the painting process its usually sped up with a voice over of me talking about whatever the heck I feel like talking about. Just be you. Be personal. If you donโt want to film then don't. People want to see you and the art. At least that's what I keep telling myself.
