I am a preschool teacher! A lot of the time the students like to talk during snack or are naturally slow eaters. Snack time is usually only 15 minutes so practice eating a little bit faster at home can always help and the teachers are probably giving lots of reminders to focus on eating as well!

As a teacher (grade 1!) this is so common! The kids are so excited during the day and they’re still getting used to structured eating times. My students who were struggling with this have definitely improved since the first day, but it may just be a transition period! A thermos to keep food warm has helped a lot of my students as well! Hang in there!! ❤️

Chances are they only have like 20 min to eat. I feel like most kids at that age like to snack all day.

I used to pack hot food (Mac n chs), soup, etc in a kids food thermos. This was 20 years ago, but maybe they’re still around.

I have the exact same bento box, i open it up and give another go at it for about 5-10 min when we get home. Then immediately down for nap. I don’t get out any new food.

this is normal! any time my kids go to their grandmas house, they don't eat at all because all they want to do is play because they're out of their normal environment. i am sure he'll adjust. also love those lunch boxes! save the snacks and give him that when he comes home on his favorite plate or bowl.

Totally normal. Bring lunch in the car and have him eat in the drive home. Then naps quicker.

Retired TK teacher here! Kiddos get sooo distracted during snack times, I always kept my eye out for kiddos who seemed hungry / restless and would offer snacks during the day. Request his teacher offer him his snack during an extra free play time to see if he will eat

I think they just get so excited and busy and also used to a specific time eating. I never really had like a “noon we eat lunch” but this is how they do it at school so he may not be used to the specific time yet. I’ve noticed my 3.5 yo has been more open to different stuff to eat after going to school now. Think it helps seeing other kids lunch!

I had one like that. He was having too much social time to eat lol. It should pass but I also would pick him up with a banana or sandwich so he got food on the way. But it should pass

Pretty normal. My son does the same. I also sometimes pack steak bites and my bubba will eat it even if it’s cold.

This may be a weird question/suggestion, but do most of the kids in his class bring lunch? Or does the school provide lunch? When I was a preschool teacher (ages 1-3) I found that sometimes the few kids that had lunch from home would be distracted by the lunch the school provided, sometimes not even because it was good, but because it wasn’t what they had, lol!

This is normal. they only have a certain amount of time then they just want to play. pack something to take in the car to pick him up then he can eat in the car and straight to bed when you get home. maybe pack him a sandwich and some fruit for school and less little things. then he has less choice and might eat more substantional food.

As a preschool teacher I would say see if you can make something similar to what his friends are having ! They usually want what they see their friends having for lunch or snack !

If he’s anything like my 5 yr old, she’s too busy chatting and “never has enough time” lol but totally normal, soon you won’t be able to pack him enough 😂

I’m not a parent so my comment is so beyond relevant than the others and I have no background whatsoever with children eating - but how cold does the Bento keep his food? I ask because I was weird with foods I typically ate a room temp being cold. What if he had a lunch that didn’t need to have a cooler with it? Again, I have no expertise whatsoever but was just the first thought that popped in my mind

When my kids were that age, I would pack a car picnic for after school. They’d eat a second lunch or heavy snack on the car ride home so they were full and ready for nap when we got home! It’s also great for keeping them occupied and awake on the ride home so they don’t fall asleep and ruin nap 😂😅
