a peanut butter cookie with a Hershey Kiss on top is as much "decoration" as an American cookie gets. I loved when my mom used to them.

I have been a firm believer that if they’re gonna branch out to different culture’s baking they should automatically include a guest judge who is an expert in it… see also Japanese Week. Mexican Week. Smores in the Halloween episode and I’m SURE there’s more. I LOVE GBBO but they have historically not been good at judging bakes that aren’t Western European

The cultural theme weeks are disastrous. Stacked tres leches cakes? Chinese dishes for Japanese week? The judges regularly mock peanut butter and jelly as a combo or pumpkin/squash for a pie. It would have been fine if they just said cakey cookie with decoration and not tried to turn it into an American thing

One of the bakers (Gary, I think), said he was making chocolate chip cookies, but then made chocolate cookies with cherries and pecans in it. Not sure how he thought that was a chocolate chip cookie 🤨

They got rid of their country weeks after Mexico (thank god) but I wish they would do an American week. Signature would be a ny style cheesecake, technical could be cookies or an American style pie, showstopper could be something else but it would be so fun

This show just doesn't understand anything that isn't British in nature. Whenever they try this no one gets it and if they do the judges get mad at them for being more authentic because they don't get it either.
