@number.seven.gurl: I love this man. Ghassan Kanafani refuses to let the interviewer choose the language and therefore choose the meaning. When Richard Carleton calls what was happening in Jordan a civil war, Kanafani says NO. When he says Palestinian liberation is a conflict, Kanafani challenges that too. When he is asked why Palestinians will not just stop fighting and talk, Kanafani keeps returning to the question underneath all the others.. stop fighting for what? People usually fight for something, and they stop fighting for something. That was Kanafani. Precise. Unflinching. He understood that words like peace, conflict, violence and negotiation can sound neutral while completely erasing the conditions that produced them. This interview was filmed in Beirut on October 16, 1970. Kanafani was only 34 years old. Less than two years later, he would be assassinated.
