@exposrapp: ⚠️Scanned on Exposr ⚠️ Scientists just turned a plastic water bottle into a cookie you can eat. Researchers at Southern Illinois University presented it at the American Chemical Society's national meeting in Chicago this month. The process: a PET bottle — the same plastic in your Dasani, your Smartwater, your Fiji — is broken down into its molecular components. Those components are fed to genetically engineered yeast. The yeast converts the plastic into edible proteins, fats, vanilla flavouring, and colouring. The output is 3D-printed into a cookie and microwaved. A biscuit made from garbage. The lead researcher's logic: "Plastic is carbon. Food is carbon."
