Throughout the world, there are individuals with unique perspectives. I am an Ethiopian, and I am proudly Black.
Ethiopia is a nation that waged a courageous and proud struggle for freedom, remaining uncolonized while preserving its heritage, history, and identity with dignity, standing tall in liberty. We Ethiopians are a people who firmly believe that all human beings are created equal, that notions of white supremacy have no place, and that every individual is equal. It is in tribute to this fierce, relentless struggle for freedom and its ultimate triumph that the headquarters of the African Union was proudly established in Addis Ababa.
To claim that Ethiopians are not Black is a blatant denial of the truth that contradicts our identity and history. We, as Ethiopians, are a proud Black people, and we take immense pride in being Black!
Furthermore, every Ethiopian recognizes and deeply honors the precious sacrifices made by African Americans in the relentless pursuit of equality and freedom. All the rights and opportunities Ethiopians and Africans enjoy today while living and working in America were built upon the sweat and blood of the Black American community. To them—the people who paid such a heavy price—we express our utmost and enduring respect.
