@spaceaccordingtoskylar: The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics went to Francis Halzen for his role in developing the IceCube Neutrino Observatory! This is the first astronomy-related prize since 2020, so you better bet I’m stoked about it. Let’s talk about these weird little ghost particles and why this work is Nobel-worthy. #nobelprize #physics #Astronomy #Science #DidYouKnow
I gotta be honest I always feel a bit weird about the Nobel Prize given how deeply collaborative science is. Like there can be great ideas that come from an individual and leaders in a project (both of which definitely apply to Halzen). But there are sooooo many people that make a project like IceCube happen so I want to give them all their flowers today too!

How can we tell if a neutrino is from beyond our solar system or not?

I, too, do not enjoy interacting. I might be part neutrino. 🧊

There’s a neutrino research facility at the bottom of a mine in Sudbury, ON, it’s called Snolab, my physics teacher in high school toured it and it’s really cool, there are virtual tours online now

do we know enough about neutrinos to know how they interact with gravity? im guessing its the same as anything else, but since they don't like interacting with regular matter I was wondering if they interact with gravity fields/space-time the same way light dies or if they behave differently.

I know you've heard this before:
a neutrino walks into a bar. bartender asks him if he wants a drink. the neutrino says, "nah, just passing through 😂😂😂
