I think they mean well, just correct them in the moment. Unfortunately most black people also only believe in white beauty standards… when I first went natural my mum would ask me all the time… and like after one hair of her being EXPOSED to my hair as it is, she had a new version of my done and undone hair. She stopped asking and is usually even surprised now when I braid it. And ironically she has become very proud of it over time. Now SHE advises people on how to take care of hair based on what she observed me do [Tears of joy]
