if you put red ID diesel in a 275 gallon tote and let it set for 30 days outside the red dye will disappear from the tote. And when inspected it looks like normal diesel.

Red Dyed Diesel is diesel, the only difference is a red dyed gets injected into it during the loading process. That’s it’s, the reason why it’s red is because of is tax exempt status. The base price is the same. On average red dyed diesel is about 40 cents cheaper per gallon because it’s not highway taxed. Major factor in the cost of fuel at the pump is the taxes that are applied on the local, state and federal levels. I work in the fuel industry and the base price before taxes is often less than half the price at the pump compared to the price a rack it’s loaded from before getting delivered to the station.
