Both groups were given the same material and learned it the same. The methylphenidate group was just able to focus better making it easier to complete work allowing them ti do it faster. No stimulant increases memory retention to a high extent. Main increase in memory is working memory. If tasked to complete the same material both groups will learn the same. The efficiency between the 2 and time to start the task is the difference. If a person physically cannot start a task or stick with a task to completion then they wont learn compared to if they had a stimulant they could start and complete the task much easier. Thats the point when it comes to learning or studying. Not memory retention but time to start the task being reduced and the ability to stay with the task till its done.

I have adhd. I would WAY rather get my work done and not learn anything extra than keep procrastinating and taking forever and having to stress even more about my grades

"neurons that fire together wire together" if you take the meds while studying over time you will associate studying with the pill and learning will become almost "pleasurable". unfortunately, this also means you will never be able to study without the pill.

Does it matter if you’re learning more or not? The entire thing with adhd is the executive dysfunction. It’s not “aw man I wish I could stop being stupid so I could do my work.” Medication is to help make both initiating and sustaining tasks easier, not to make you smarter while doing something.

I play piano , and I’ll have phases where I don’t take my meds but I can still play the same songs I’ve learned, I can still do the math I learned etc
