Alhaji Shewu Beneh explains the different clans of the 68 Wangara peoples of West Africa. The Wangara are a historic Mandé speaking people whose communities are spread across several countries in West Africa. Over centuries, they have been known by different names and regional identities, reflecting the diversity of the wider Mande world. In Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon, they are commonly known as Wangara; in Burkina Faso, many are known as Dyula (Dyoula); in Mali, related Mande communities include the Bambara; in Liberia, they are widely known as Mandingo; while in Guinea, the Malinké or Soninké (Maninka) name is prominent Related Mande-speaking communities and identities are also found across Senegal, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, and Guinea-Bissau, where names such as Mandinka, Dyula, Maninka, and Malinké are used depending on the country, language, and historical community. Although they may be known by different names in different countries, the various Wangara communities share closely related Mande languages and dialects, with many communities able to understand and communicate with one another. Their connections extend beyond language to trade, Islam, scholarship, migration, culture, and ancestral traditions🌎❤️🙏🏾 #ghanatiktok🇬🇭 #wangara #kumasi #zongo #asante
