Suzanne Collins did not get Canada’s tariffs lifted because of anything she did, or because Canada backed down as a goodwill gesture. I know exactly why Canada removed those tariffs, because the Prime Minister explained it very clearly. He removed the tariffs on Maine because they would have hurt Canadians as well, particularly Canadian industry. When the Canadian Prime Minister imposed the counter-tariffs, he made sure they were designed to inflict the maximum possible pain on the American side while causing the minimum possible damage to Canada. That is why Maine was ultimately spared. It had nothing to do with Suzanne Collins or with Canada backing down. It was simply a matter of making the tariffs as effective as possible while protecting Canadians from unnecessary harm.
