Most historians and biblical scholars do not believe Jesus was a white European man. Jesus was a Jew from 1st century Galilee (in the region of modern Israel/Palestine), so he would have been a Middle Eastern Jewish man. Historical and archaeological evidence suggests that people in that region at that time typically had darker hair, brown eyes, and olive to brown skin tones.
The familiar image of Jesus with very light skin, blue eyes, and European features comes largely from later European art traditions. Different cultures have often depicted Jesus with features that resemble their own populations.
