You can still go to UMich. You can argue UChicago didn't give you enough financial aid. And think about it, a school can't really force you to come there if you can't afford it. So hopefully if you haven't withdrawn from UMich yet, you can still go if admitted. It's not a difficult process or legal stuff all you need to do is tell the admissions office.

You are locked in for the year. Go to Chicago with your entire heart. Get involved. Make friends. Study hard. They saw something special in you. You have the opportunity to obtain the a world class education. They are the best Econ. If you don’t like it in a year, you can transfer.

You can always go to UMich for grad school, attend their games, etc. I think you’ll find things you love about UChicago. If you hate it, you can transfer, but I think you should give it a fair shot and see how it is. You might love it.

From what I read, and obviously I do not know you, I think you are unhealthily tying yourself to a school (UMich) and neglecting to realize that you can fluorish no matter where you are. From the beginning, you seem to be building your self worth based off of schools and allowing your insecurity and self doubt to take you down. Try to re-evaluate why Uchicago isn't for you because to me it just seems like you built your whole year/high-school experience around UMich so not being able to go there is now breaking down what your past year's reality was made up of. Also, think of why you even applied ed0 to UChicago in the first place. You simply did not think you were going to get in. You repeatedly mention you are not smart enough for the school, but that might just be imposter syndrome talking. I promise you that as a freshman you have so much room to grow and fluorish. Being in a city like Chicago is also so amazing. You are not limited nor defined by your school. You will find your people. I do think you should genuinely be open-minded about it and if you do not like it, transfer out.
