@footballcrosscheck: Messi Red Card & Yellow Card at Full Time against Benin 🟥🟨 Referee gifts Messi both cards in Benin farewell 🎁 (Lionel Messi did not get booked in his farewell. After Argentina beat Benin 3-0 at the Monumental on October 6, 2026, Chilean referee Fernando Véjar handed him the yellow and the red he had used in the friendly. That is the moment in the picture. Cards out, Messi right there, Benin still around him. A souvenir, not a sending-off. Messi scored the third from the penalty spot, his 126th international goal, and assisted Nicolás Otamendi and Nico Paz. The real yellows went to Otamendi and Benin's Mohamed Tijani. No reds in the match. After the whistle he also walked off with the match ball, while Benin players hugged him and asked for photos. The crowd was already singing for Leo. I watched that handover again and I still think it is the perfect joke. He opened his Argentina career with a red on debut against Hungary, and he finished holding both cards. For me, that looks like a call for duty. Next career, whistle in hand. He has spent twenty years on the other side of soft fouls and bottled calls. Would you want Messi as the next referee?)
