Instead of using jumps, it might be more helpful to “crawl” or “slither” across the number line. I know textbooks love jumps but they imply there is nothing between the two numbers, when really that’s where decimals and fractions lie. I know they are only in 1st grade but it will help prepare them for fractions and decimals later on. Just an idea! Love your enthusiasm!!

I’m gonna be a negative Nelly I taught this lesson today and I hate it. Why am I teaching a blank number line?! It’s ridiculous… I get it counting on, and using a number line but taking the time to teach them how to draw a number line is so hard!

We just taught this yesterday and I’m so glad to see you teach it how we did! I didn’t like how the lesson showed to make ten first. My kids are not ready for hops worth more than 1 😅
