What if the WORST stock in the S&P 500 was actually the better investment? 👀 So I ran another experiment. Every year for 20 years, I looked back at the previous calendar year and found the single worst-performing company in the S&P 500. Then I did something most investors probably wouldn’t want to do: I invested $1,000 into it. Every. Single. Year. At the same time, I invested another $1,000 into the S&P 500. Same starting dates. Dividends reinvested. And I held everything — through the recoveries, acquisitions, restructurings, and the companies that never came back. $20,000 invested into each strategy. The question is simple: When a stock has already been absolutely crushed, are you buying a bargain that everyone else has given up on? Or are you just catching a falling knife? Because “down 50%” doesn’t mean it can’t fall another 50%. And a stock that falls 80% needs to gain 400% just to get back to where it started. This experiment had some incredible comeback stories…and some absolute disasters. But I think the final comparison is the most interesting part.
