@sonita.seymour: «Sbai» originated from Cambodia ♥️🇰🇭 The word “Sbai” is recorded in Inscription K-713 at Preah Ko Temple, which was built in the 9th century by King Indravarman I (877–889). #Sbai_khmer🇰🇭 #Sbai_khmer_To_UNESCO #KhmerWeddingDress#viraltiktok
The Khmer royal court and elite decisively abandoned the Rattanakosin style of
dress during the 1960s.
In contrast, ordinary Khmer people and youths have increasingly adopted Thai attire over the past three to five years.
For ordinary weddings in Cambodia, almost every bridal shop now offers rental packages featuring outfits modeled after the "Royal-Preferred" Thai traditional styles (such as the *Chakkri* and *Dusit* styles) for couples to wear during morning ceremonies. When visiting ancient sites, young Cambodians commonly rent *sabai*-draped outfits—featuring gold-thread embroidery and gold-colored accessories inspired by "Applied Thai" fashion—to stroll and take photos at Angkor Wat or other stone temples, a trend similar to the craze among Thais visiting Wat Chaiwatthanaram.
