@nourishingapothecary: You don’t need to wait until you’re struggling to start looking at your fertility. There are a few things Mel wishes she could tell every woman before she starts trying for a baby. Preconception care ideally starts before the positive pregnancy test. It gives us time to look at your cycle, ovulation, nutrient status, general health and the factors that may influence fertility. And fertility isn’t just about the woman. Your partner contributes half of the genetic material to an embryo, so sperm health matters too. Male fertility should be part of the conversation from the beginning, not something we investigate months later. A regular period also doesn’t necessarily tell us the whole story. We want to understand whether you’re ovulating, what your cycle is doing and whether there are areas worth investigating before you start trying. That might include looking at nutrients such as vitamin D and iron alongside your broader fertility picture. You don’t have to wait until you’ve been trying for 12 months to start learning about your reproductive health. Mel is our Senior Fertility & Endometriosis Naturopath at Nourishing Apothecary and works with women and couples preparing for pregnancy, trying to conceive and navigating more complex fertility concerns. We consult Australia-wide via Zoom. Not sure where to start?
