I’m 23 now and the ONLY thing fundamentally different from me at 13 aside from obviously being taller and more mature is that I have a more polished skillset in my job/passion. My special interests are the same, no matter how much of a box I try to put myself in, 13 year old me always shines through 🙏

Unfortunately your mum was partly right about the art. It’s extremely competitive and I’ve spend 6 years and got two diplomas for essentially nothing. Very difficult to get somewhere with that. I ended up landing a corporate job instead.

I loved making art until I started going to art school. This is killing me and I regret not choosing something else. I have no idea what I want to do later in life but it's definitely not art

also if you do decide that you don’t care what you do for money and wanna keep you hobbies as hobbies, make sure you choose a career that’s high paying bc you’ll bust your ass regardless

3/4 years? Finish the degree and apply it to your own path, business will give you more options into the things you’ve mentioned than you think. We make our own path you don’t have to regret your decisions you have to make the most out of it!

As an artist I wish I would have gone into business or finance, invested a ton, retired early and then been able to do art for the rest of my life. I’m always stressed about money and so are all my artist friends except the 2 or 3 who “made it”.

my mom fully villainezed trade school for me. i wish she hadn't. I wish taking up a trade wasn't taught to be bellow academics. I wish I had gone into some sort of trade. cuz I did absolutely nothing with my business degree, am working in an office, I can feel this isn't for me, but I don't have the time and energy to enroll into trade school now cuz all my time is being at work and in the evenings im too tired

ever since i was a kid i loved to draw, my mom (an engineer herself) insisted on architecture because its both “well paying” and artistic…i prolonged my studies by 2 years and recently finally graduated after completely burning out because turns out architecture is 10% art and 90% technical work. But hey, mom knows best
