One of the most iconic moments in Spider-Man (2002) was achieved for real when Peter Parker catches Mary Jane's lunch on a tray after she slips in the cafeteria. Tobey Maguire actually performed the catch himself, with the food attached to the tray in specific positions so everything had to land correctly in a single attempt. According to the film's DVD commentary, the crew spent an entire 16-hour day trying to capture the shot, with Kirsten Dunst saying it took 156 takes before Maguire finally pulled it off. What makes the scene even better is that it looks like exactly the kind of impossible stunt audiences would assume was created with CGI. Instead, Maguire repeatedly caught Dunst with one arm while simultaneously positioning the tray beneath the falling items until everything finally worked. Director Sam Raimi kept the successful take in the movie, turning a few seconds of footage into a moment fans still talk about decades later. Sometimes the most memorable

Sometimes the most memorable "special effect" is simply an actor refusing to stop until take 156 finally works. #spiderman #xyzbca kirstendunst #fyp #tobeymaguire
