Believer: Pastor, I'm afraid of tithing. I'm worried that if I don't give 10%, something bad will happen. Do I have to pay a tithe? Pastor: Dear brothers and sisters, many believers struggle with the same question. When it's time to give, instead of thinking, "I'm grateful and I want to give," you're thinking, "If I don't give 10%, will I be cursed?" Many pastors teach it this way. But that is not the message the Bible intends to give you. Today, I'd like to share three truths to help you truly understand tithing and experience freedom in your heart. First, the original tithe was very different from what many people think today. In the Old Testament, Leviticus 27 describes the tithe as agricultural produce and livestock. It was a practice unique to an agricultural society, not 10% of a modern salary. Second, the curses mentioned in Scripture were not directed at ordinary believers who struggle or feel afraid. The severe rebuke in Malachi was directed at corrupt leaders who exploited the people and stole God's offerings. More importantly, Christ has already borne the curse of the Law on our behalf. Galatians 3:13 says: "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us." You no longer need to live in fear that you will be cursed if you do not tithe. Third, under the New Covenant, God cares about your heart, not a fixed percentage. 2 Corinthians 9:7 says: "Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver." What matters to God is not the percentage you give, but whether you give willingly or under pressure.
