@horrorproject.en: The Mother of Modern Adoption How does a woman who took children from their own families end up called the "Mother of Modern Adoption"? Her name was Georgia Tann. In nineteen forty-nine, a mother leaves her three children outside a courthouse in Tiptonville, Tennessee. Later, Georgia Tann pulls up in a big black car and tells them: "Come with me." The children think she's a nurse. She actually runs the Memphis branch of the Tennessee Children's Home Society, which was only allowed to place children in foster care. Between nineteen twenty-four and nineteen fifty, Tann sold more than five thousand children to wealthy families. Many were taken from their parents without permission. And she had powerful friends in politics and the courts. In September nineteen fifty, Governor Gordon Browning announced an investigation. Days later, Tann died of cancer. Nobody was ever criminally charged. An estimated five hundred children died in her care. Nineteen were buried in one lot with no headstones. 💬 Tann never faced a courtroom. Does that feel like justice? Tell me in the comments 👇 🔔 Follow for more true crime stories. #truecrime #georgiatann #memphis #blackmarketadoption #History
