If you look it up, the salmonella and E. coli (if there is a contamination) are found in the dirt. So washing the outside of the pumpkin is crucial. The way the bacteria gets inside is when you’re cutting into an unwashed pumpkin the knives get contaminated and then you spread it everywhere. If you plan to take photos with your baby inside, you want to carve the pumpkin and use it within a couple of hours.

Salmonella would be found on the outer side of the pumpkin so just wash the pumpkin before cutting it so you don’t push the bacteria inside and then just give baby a bath afterwards to wash all the pumpkin off so they don’t ingest it
