They legalized that in Virginia-that motorcycles could proceed if the light doesn’t change

Not sure if I’m right but aren’t they metal detectors and not weight sensing?

Just for the record, it’s not based off of weight. There’s not a scale on the ground. It’s based off of the amount of metal there is it’s being picked up by a sensor in the ground.

weight has nothing to do with it!
It's the metal of the vehicle or motorcycle that disrupts a magnetic field that triggers it to cycle the light

It’s crazy that people don’t know this and they’ll be 5 feet behind the sensor in a car and wonder why the light hasn’t changed.

Put the bike’s kickstand down.

Weight has nothing to do with it. Electromagnetism is the answer. Motorcycle needs to stop/sit on top of the sensing wire in the ground to activate it.

It isn't weight. There is an inductive loop buried in the roadway (you can often see the rectangular cut) that detect changes in the magnetic field when a vehicle comes into the loop. Being replaced by little cameras nowdays.

its not the weight of a vehicle, its a metal sensor. if you know where to park. it'll change. I trigger it every time. As law enforcement you should know this

The lights are triggered by magnetic induction not weight Same result though not enough metal to trigger the light

If it doesn't cycle in a acceptable amount of time. I simply make sure it's clear then go on about my business.

They are called loops and they detect metal and if it’s not detecting the bike, the loops are bad. It will also detect a bicycle longest wheel. It’s metal.

so if a motorcycle doesn't trigger the light, does that mean it also doesn't trigger red light cameras?

How do you know if the light have sensors on it , is there a sign that says it is ?

correction.. its not bc of weight, its magnetic. those metal lines are the detectors

The strips are magnetic. They aren’t at every light but they are at the lights that say “stop here to activate signal”. Just look at the road and you can see the strips. Some lights are camera controlled or motion detector cameras.
