@chinaminutes: For months, 11-year-old Lu Zikuan ate until he could barely eat anymore — all to save his dad. In 2019, Lu learned he was the only matching donor in his family who could help save his father. For years, his dad had been battling myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a serious bone marrow disorder. But at just 30 kg (66 lbs), Lu was too small to safely donate. So he began eating five meals a day: eggs, a steamed bun, porridge and milk for breakfast, braised pork with rice for lunch, two more meals after school, and noodles with egg and milk before bed. By September, he had gained more than 15 kg. He donated bone marrow on September 9, followed by stem cell donations over the next two days. Afterwards, Lu visited his father in isolation and told him through the intercom: “My job is done. The rest is up to you.” His father later returned home and was reported to be recovering well.
