My friend Tyler @tmwoodcrafts from the UK posted a very useful video, so this time I decided to try his idea myself. Drilling a deep, straight hole into the end of a dowel is surprisingly difficult, especially as the hole gets deeper and requires more accuracy. For my version, I followed Tyler’s method and used an aluminum angle as a guide. One important point is to make the first shallow hole as close to the center as possible. For the deeper hole, I used a long metal drill bit with the same diameter as the first hole, as I thought it would work better for this setup. It’s a very simple method, but it worked surprisingly well. Tyler shares lots of useful woodworking ideas and information on social media, and his explanations are always very clear and helpful.
