A healthy relationship should have room for someone to say, “This hurt me,” without making them prove why their feelings deserve to exist. Real care listens. It doesn’t make being right more important than making things right. When every concern gets met with explanations, arguments, or a debate over how something was said, accountability starts disappearing. Their pain becomes something to defeat instead of something to understand. You don’t have to agree with every word someone says to care about the impact your choices had on them. People can get defensive, come back, own what happened, apologize, and change. That’s part of repair. What can’t keep happening is expecting honesty while punishing someone whenever that honesty makes you uncomfortable. Healthy relationships need humility for both people’s experiences to matter, because trust can’t grow where one person has to fight just to feel heard.

He wouldn’t listen most of the time because he said I was attacking him. The times he “listened” he would argue and defend himself and the apologize and make promises and by then I was exhausted just trying to be heard. So I learned to be silent over time because even his apologies and promises were meaningless. And that silence grew and it felt like it filled the house and I couldn’t breathe or think or see or feel, the silence took up everything.

I feel like it’s hard for people who are wrong to be able to admit that they are- and don’t take responsibility for their actions or lack there of… it’s not always so easy to hold them accountable especially when they know that they’ve hurt you… all we can really do is pray that one day they will accept reality and admit the truth….as truth will always prevail-
