@art_dailydose: A simple instruction, “draw a scientist,” became a way to study how children picture people working in science. In a 2018 study, Northwestern University researchers combined 78 U.S. studies involving 20,860 children, from kindergarten through 12th grade. In the earliest landmark study, conducted from 1966 to 1977, fewer than 1% drew a woman. Across later studies from 1985 to 2016, that figure averaged 28%. Both girls and boys became more likely to draw women scientists over time, although girls did so more often. The researchers also found that older children were more likely to draw men, suggesting that ideas about who works in science develop as children grow. Research: David I. Miller, Kyle M. Nolla, Alice H. Eagly and David H. Uttal, Northwestern University (2018) #art #drawing #Science #education
