Yeah I thought of that too. They can't just keep him on the bench forever so I think the plan was to start him in easier matches and bring him on in matches they are already winning, but during that match against Norway the coach saw that it wasn't worth it bringing him on and losing the match even after telling him earlier that h would come off the bench, hence the issues going on.

this logic becomes flawed when you realise that messi retired for the better of argentina and didn't want to be forced to retire from the fans because of how much worse he makes them, he retired as still the best Argentinian player currently, ronaldo should have retired regardless if they asked him not to, I'm sure the Argentinian federation tried to persuade messi to not retire but he still did

Well, I beg to differ, they can achieve both, if Ronaldo is humble enough to play from the bench, that way, it's a win-win for the brand and the football. If the team needs to win, he stays longer on the bench, when the team is leading he's brought into the game without risking much. The "footballer side" gains if he manages to score and add to his 1000 goals dream, while the team gains on the "brand" side and win games. The problem is that HE IS NOT HUMBLE enough to see it from that perspective.

But unc , I would understand if they had a bad team and bad players. But they don’t. They have world class players in all areas of the pitch. So they don’t need him as a footballer. Also , people will eventually adjust to live without Ronaldo the brand if this team actually does well because they do have great players to do it.
