@twoparentsandapod: If your toddler is crying for the donut and you cave?? You just taught them that crying is HOW you get the donut 🫠 The fix: HOLD THE LINE. No means no. Even through the tears. Even when it's exhausting. Even when giving in would end the meltdown faster. (And make sure your YESSES are yes too. Inconsistency is what makes it confusing.) #twoparentsandapod #toddlerlife #toddlermom #parenting #momlife
So what happens when you hold the line with your children then they get around cousins and grandparents who don’t do this. What do you do? How do you set this boundary

I’m curious their thoughts on how and when this should be handled with grandparents?

and when they are crying about not getting the donut, you can comfort the crying without giving in. "I know you are upset because you want the donut, and I love you very much. I get upset when I am told no too."

My kids think they should have a drink every time we go to the store. Most times I say yes but some days it’s a no. My toddler will start crying and sometimes pitch a fit. I tell him if he acts this way when he gets a no I can’t give him anymore yes’ and he will stop. I know it doesn’t work for everyone but works for him.

I was spoiled and I do have the mentality that I get what I want. I'm 43 and it is a really awful personality trait. it sucks to say it but it is a reality.

Things CAN sometimes be yes, and sometimes be no. With the example of the donut, you can tell her no and stay firm in that at the time, but she has had a donut and will again have a donut so that’s a break in that logic. Toddlers don’t understand why they can’t have a donut every day or whenever they want, just like the paci or whatever. I get the point, but also things adaptable. I think it’s about teaching that when you say something you mean it and will follow through.

Just ignore them when they cry because they’re not getting their way. If you coddle or yell it’s still a reaction. So just ignore them when they fall down and cry because you said no just say nothing and walk away and when they come to their senses then you discipline

I do NOT think your child is spoiled but following this logic sounds amazing til the next story was “ so Tate spent a week sleeping in our bed.. “ 😂. Parenting man, it’s the ultimate test of everything you think to be true ❤️

My granddaughter, shes 8 and im helping raise her. Anyway just the other day she was pestering me about something, what ive now forgot and I straight up told her my mind isn't going to change the answer is "No". She didn't ask again after that.
My daughter has always been very consistent tho. And I really try to keep with that same momentum. So my granddaughter knows The decision isn't going to be different just because she asks in another adult. Because all kids do try that too. and now there's a another adult in our house. Cos, my daughter's boyfriend just moved in recently, and so my granddaughter is testing the waters with that and we basically had to tell him, look, you have to be this way with her.

and parents should have a good reason on why they are saying no not just say “because I said so” or “because you just can’t” or “because i’m the parent and I said no” those reasons aren’t good enough for a kid or for anyone!

my parents called it "putting their foot down", was I spoiled, yes but I also learned that no means no and I can cry all I want, doesn't change the answer. this is good parenting, we love to see parents being parents in a world of child lead parenting

I don’t know how it was established but I remember being a little girl and asking for a toy. Mom would frequently say no that’s too expensive. That’s something to ask for for Christmas or your birthday. I’d frequently ask if I could get something and sometimes it’d be a no to a you but I could get a snack food or it was a yes but it had to be under a certain price. That’s probably how I got so good at numbers at a young age.
