I was deathly afraid of going to sleep when I was a kid the stories my parents told didn't comfort me through in the cold war and nuclear labor paddling with USSR!!

My grandfather died a month before I turned 2. My mom made me touch him at the funeral home and told me granddaddy is cold. He’s not alive anymore. Then she made me touch my cheek, her cheek and grandmas cheek. We are warm. We are still alive. She put it in words that I would understand. And that helped the process.

I agree. My great Gpa died and they told me he's was going to sleep forever and was at peace. I spent every night for 6 years afraid to go to sleep because I thought I'd never wake up.

I hate when people tell children that their loved one went on a long trip and aren't coming back. I think that gives them false hope.

My mother in law died when my daughter was 4 months old from cancer [Crying]Before Mom got worse......she got to hold her. The day she died. We went with Luna (our daughter) Mom's best friend held her outside the house while my husband and I said goodbye. The removal van came to get mom about an hour later, Luna saw her get taken out. A week later was the funeral. Me being in death care I decided she was too young for the visitation and funeral. A friend watched her. The day of funeral my sister watched her. I didn't want her last memory of mom to be that. The casket, the cemetery. Fast forward to 3yrs later and we take her to visit "mommy" or "momom" because I told her mom died she has been more comfortable at the cemetery even going so far as to go up to other headstones and say I love you to the deceased [Red heart][Laugh approved]Don't sugar coat it. Kids are smart. They understand.

Why do we say rest in peace rest implies sleep this is a illogical take

When I was in first grade, we had a classmate who was killed in a car accident. I just remember the teacher got us altogether and basically brought her attention to the fact that he wasn’t there that day. And I remember her saying, “He is dead…” She didn’t even sugarcoat it. She just said that he died, and we just talked about it. I didn’t go to the funeral though. My parents don’t take me to that.

No. If I get asked anything, I’ll tell them ‘he’s dead. You’re going to die someday. We all are.’ That’s kind of easy.

Honestly 💯 age appropriate wording is so important. As a child I was given a very clear understanding of death of my loved ones.

I have gray. I was told that when I was a child and every time I saw my parents sleeping I will reach out and watch them to make sure they were still breathing.

I have 4 children. #2 and #4 died in infancy. So glad my funeral director spoke to me how you are speaking in this video. Several times I have had to correct things others have said to my children. I correct right away and once or twice I’ve offended well meaning people but I have to do right by my children.

I was 13 and no one told me he would look like he was sleeping. I had nightmares they buried him alive.

Well in South Africa 🇿🇦 we make the picture to be more clear and descriptive so they know they are next if they don't behave

I would say the person is an angel with God now but everything is ok now if the kid is old enough to understand what that means I only say things a certain way depending on age my sister was about 4 when she asked where babies came from all I said was God gave the stork a baby to give to mommy and dad in my house we always have believed in God
