People are losing hours of their lives sitting in cars. Parents are spending less time with their children. Workers are arriving home exhausted. Students are spending enormous amounts of time commuting. Businesses lose productivity. And the constant dependence on automobiles makes transportation unnecessarily expensive for people who cannot afford it.

I want buses that do not get trapped behind every other car on the road. I want trains that come often enough that missing one does not ruin your entire schedule. I want transportation that is safe, clean, affordable, predictable, and easy enough that driving becomes an option rather than a necessity. And ultimately, I want our infrastructure investments to be judged by one simple standard:
