The old adage "there’s no such thing as a free meal" was put to the test after a Liverpool city centre coffee shop decided to offer exactly that. Joe & the Juice at Liverpool ONE isn’t necessarily the first place you’d expect to find a bargain, so I went along to see for myself just how "free" its breakfast giveaway really was. The coffee giant recently launched a new breakfast menu, and to celebrate, bosses decided to give customers a free breakfast wrap made-to-order before 10am while stocks lasted. Liverpool’s Paradise Place branch was one of the participating venues, so I made sure to visit an hour before the offer ended, giving myself plenty of time before the deal was over for the day. Before placing my order, I wanted to make sure there wasn't some sneaky sign-up requirement or hidden catch, and asked whether I needed to buy anything first. I've been caught out too many times by supposedly "free" offers that turn out to require my first-born child in exchange for a tiny discount once I reach the counter, so I requested full transparency. Sure enough, I was reassured that my order was on the house and there was no small text to worry about. The menu is stacked and rather healthy, with a surprisingly affordable price tag even if you did have to pay. There is a turkey and scrambled egg wrap, with avocado salsa Verde and spinach; a steak 'n' egg wrap, with Italian-style hard cheese, Cholula and spinach; or a simple egg and avocado wrap, with Italian-style hard cheese, Cholula and spinach. There's plenty more, including bowl alternatives and yogurt fruit bowls, with a wide variety of exotic ingredients. But for now, lets focus on the free wrap. I opted for the turkey and scrambled egg item, patiently waiting thereafter at the side of the store for it to be delivered. After a brief five minutes or so, the woman behind the counter called my name, handed me a bright pink joe & the Juice bag to go and let me be on my merry way. To recap, I popped into Joe & the Juice, asked for a breakfast wrap, received it, and left without lifting a finger financially or otherwise. You can get a free breakfast after all. And do you know what? It was delicious too. The wrap knocked its fast-food competitors out of the park when it came to flavour and ingredients. It's also far larger than your typical breakfast wrap -more akin to a hefty lunch option, I'd say. You get a lot of bang for your buck, and the fact that it was free made it even better!
