@afrivision.media: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a stark assessment of Iran’s economy Wednesday, saying the country is approaching economic conditions experienced by very few nations. Speaking to reporters during a visit to Athens, Rubio described Iran’s economy as being in “total and complete freefall” and argued that U.S. sanctions and restrictions on Iranian oil exports are putting increasing pressure on Tehran. “The Iranian economy is about to reach a place that few countries in the world have been in terms of how bad it’s going to get,” Rubio said. Rubio placed responsibility on Iran’s clerical leadership, saying: “They are the ones that have put the poor people of Iran in the situation that they’re in.” He also accused Iran’s leadership of directing resources toward regional armed groups rather than improving conditions for ordinary Iranians. Tehran, meanwhile, has blamed U.S. sanctions, military pressure and restrictions on its oil trade for worsening the country’s economic difficulties. Rubio’s comments come as Washington and Tehran remain deeply divided over Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions and efforts to negotiate an end to the continuing conflict. #MarcoRubio #Iran #UnitedStates #Tehran #IranEconomy
