@lipsinging_jaron.lyle: I’m tired of hearing biblical APPLICATION preached as though it were biblical TEXT. “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.” — 2 Corinthians 6:14 But here’s the problem: Paul never mentions dating in that passage. He never says boyfriend, girlfriend, courtship, engagement, husband, wife, or marriage. Modern dating as we know it wasn’t even the cultural system Paul was addressing. Read what comes next. Paul contrasts righteousness with lawlessness. Light with darkness. Christ with Belial. A believer with an unbeliever. The temple of God with idols. This is fundamentally about spiritual allegiance and becoming bound together in ways that compromise your devotion to Christ. Can that principle be APPLIED to dating and marriage today? Absolutely. Should Christians seriously consider whether the person they marry shares their faith, values, direction, morality, and vision for raising a family? Absolutely. But application is not the same thing as Scripture. And when a pastor says you shouldn’t date someone who isn’t Christian because you’ll be “unequally yoked,” then responds to “but they’re really hot” with, “Yeah, so is hell,” we need to be careful. Because where exactly does Scripture say dating an unbeliever sends someone to hell? It doesn’t. Interestingly, when Paul ACTUALLY discusses a Christian married to an unbeliever in 1 Corinthians 7:12–16, he doesn’t tell them to leave. If the unbelieving spouse is willing to stay, Paul tells the believer not to divorce them. That doesn’t mean Scripture encourages Christians to marry people who reject their faith. It means the biblical conversation is more nuanced than a catchy sermon clip. Pastors can say, “Based on biblical principles, I believe Christians should only date Christians.” That’s pastoral interpretation. But don’t turn an interpretation into a command God never explicitly gave. We need to stop reading our modern culture INTO an ancient text and start reading the ancient text deeply enough to understand what it actually says. Text. Context. Interpretation. Then application. Not opinion first, Scripture second. #BiblicalContext #ReadTheBible

😳😳😳😳 Ummmm. I’m not so sure you understand what the Bible says on this. From EXPERIENCE. If you marry someone who is a non-believer this statistics are either you’ll end up in divorce or you’ll fall away from God yourself. And the scripture you’re referring to in Corinthians that says if you marry a non-believer and they will stay then let them because you don’t know what God‘s gonna do through you BUT if they leave you are FREE!!! Ty Jesus he provided a way out. No you won’t go to hell for it but you will be living IN hell on earth.

I didnt watch the sermon you are talking about, so I cant speak to that. But as a Christian, it's best to wait for who God has set aside for you. Dont waste your time on anything else. An unequally yoked marriage is EXTREMELY difficult even if they are wordly good people. This is coming from experience. The world rules of being a good person is very different from holiness and its difficult to be in a marriage where they aren't the same style of living.

I once married someone who was not a Christian and over time my values and morals where changed in the wrong direction and lead me away from the Lord. its not a sin that they are not saved but that we are as believers at risk of walking away feom God one small step at a time. Our belief is important in a relationship and one can impact the other. A believer can most definitely lead the unbeliever to the Lord but it can also go the opposite way. we must be cautious to temptation and stumbling.

My ex “Pastor” has been best friends with my husband of 18 years(he filed for divorce last year) has him believing that I was possessed and so we are unequally yoked because my husband is a Deacon at his church. The kicker was the reason WHY he actually got away with ostracizing me from the congregation is because he coerced me off my medication because its “witchcraft” and when I spiraled into a mental health crisis he it spun as demonic possession. Oh and only after he had them convinced I was demonically possessed, proceeded to abuse me in multiple ways. I cant tell you when if ever I will be back in a church building. 😔 however I CAN tell you alot of these wolves in sheep’s clothing will have to answer for their unrepentant lifestyles, and that is a place I would NEVER want to be!

This is why I don’t like organized religion. It’s their interpretation. Which is very flawed. I prefer my own relationship God. My own understanding. Which is to love thy neighbor. Talk to any everyone about God. Spread love, help where you can, spread the seeds.

I do see both sides of this because there are biblical passages for both. I have personally watched a lot of people drift away because they were unequal yolked I have seen massive conflicts with the children that they have when there have been fights. I even know someone who took the guy to court to make sure the daughter did not go to a Christian school to church, etc. This is a close friend and he lost all rights to that. I also saw a recent new story where one parent fought the other parent and the child is not allowed to go to church, etc. even though they live with the Christian, the other parent was able to block that. So we can say a lot of things, but the unfortunate truth is where does that land you when you become a family etc.

You can understand why it is going to be difficult for so many reasons that there would be many conflicts for one to be a believer in Christ and one that doesn’t believe in Christ at all.Not that maybe eventually they could change their mind,by the way you live and handle things that come your way.Just know this going in to a relationship.

Josh may have been referring to this Bible passage (ESV). 2 Corinthians 6:14. Do not be unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness. Or what fellowship has light with darkness 🙏

Jaron, I want to say, the believer married to the unbeliever would likely have come about because they married when they were both unbelievers. One got saved but the other still isn’t.

@💜 Maddy 💜:At the end of my marriage ( my lowest ) My Minister prayed with me to gain the courage & strength to leave my husband. I asked him if he was disappointed in me? He told me the worst needed to end. As we prayed together I could feel my whole body shifting & shaking. I'm forever grateful. I did end my marriage knowing I did nothing wrong . That my friend is a true man of God.

I, for a long time, quit going to church because the pastor said if you don’t take chemo and radiation then you will go to hell.
