@archguide.co: Conceived as a manifesto for postwar American living, the house emerged from a collaboration between husband and wife designers, who initially imagined a cantilevered structure. When steel finally arrived after years of shortage, they abandoned those plans and instead nestled the residence against the Pacific Palisades slope, letting the meadow and eucalyptus grove guide the design. The building employs industrial components never intended for domestic use: H-columns, open-web joists, standard glazing, corrugated metal. A Mondrian-like grid of colored infill panels animates the south facade, while the interior expands to 17 feet at the living room, filled with an eclectic collection of design objects, textiles, and found materials that shaped the couple's philosophy of living well with intentional things. The Eameses also created some of the defining furniture of the midcentury modern movement, and they would bring pieces home to live with and test. The house became the definitive statement of the Case Study Program, proving that off-the-shelf materials could create not just shelter, but a complete worldview about how to inhabit modern space. Scott Brust :
He can’t tour the inside of the house unless you come up with 2500 bucks. Such a shame.
