@itsaudrys: As CNAs, we spend so much time with our residents. We help them get ready, feed them, comfort them, listen to their stories, celebrate their good days, and support them through the difficult ones. Over time, they become more than just a resident on our assignment. We become attached. And then one day, things change. A hospice bed arrives. The room feels different. The care feels different. And suddenly, you realize that you may be entering a chapter you weren’t emotionally prepared for. We’re taught to be professional, but being professional doesn’t mean we don’t care. We are human too. We form connections, we remember the little things, and sometimes we carry those moments home with us. This is one of the parts of being a CNA that people don’t always talk about. To every CNA who has ever had to say goodbye to a resident they cared for deeply: you’re not alone. 🤍 What’s something about being a CNA that you wish people understood?#cnalife #cna #nursinghome #cnatiktok

When I became a CNA I told myself to not get attached…the second I walk into a room I’m attached, you can’t help it. It’s a caring love that I feel is important to have when in healthcare. Yes, it can hurt when one’s time to go arrives. But I encourage all my fellow CNA’s and Nurses to remember that you loved them and took care of them in a way that I KNOW they will remember when heaven side❤️

Being the only “family member “that they had and then they get a hospice bed and decline and matter of days and then you’re the only one there sitting with them holding their hand. They tell us to not get attached, but it’s extremely hard to not get attached when you’re their family.

My fellow CNAs... know You R loved bc You Love first... We stand on the battlefield, when we hurt, when we r sick, when we r everybit soulfully tired... We do this not for a paycheck[lets face it we make pennys, while our Higher ups and CEOs millions] we do it bc our hearts and our very souls cry out to help to support, to care for, and yes to love.. This is what a CNA look like... we care for our patients and our nurses... Prove me wrong i will wait..

He didn't even get to have the hospice bed. One Monday he was fine and talkative, happy to see me. Tuesday and Wednesday I was off, Thursday I come back and see him struggling to breathe, turning cold. He gets sent to the hospital before my shift ended that day. Monday I come back and get told he passed away the day before at the hospital from sepsis. I have known him for a whole year since I first was a student and subsequently became a CNA. He would tell me I was his favorite because I did a good job and would always talk with him since he never got out of bed due to blood pressure issues. I miss him already to be honest, my best friend as how we would call each other 💔

I think there's something wrong with me truly. ive been doing this for 15 years and when a resident passes I feel relief. watching them suffer while not being able to make them better hurt.

It’s so bad in memory care too. When they know they’re dying but can’t comprehend it so you just pretend it isn’t happening until one day they just look at you in that way that makes you break down because you know what’s next. Literally watched a resident for 30 days not even go from walking talking to gone and it happened so fast. Held his hand as he passed and read him a book for 10 minutes after his assessment while I waited for family to arrive for him.

The amount of heartbreak you feel all in an instant. It’s like a punch in the stomach. The breath right out of your lungs.

I have multiple of the little cards that they offer from the funerals because they were my favorite resident. One saved my life so at the funeral I made sure to get one. Long story short her angel sat in the car with me as we spun and rolled and finally settled only a few feet away from something that could have made the accident much worse potential fatal.
