An 18-year-old woman was at a Regions Bank in Sarasota when employees noticed a check they believed was forged. The transaction was stopped, and police were called before any money could be withdrawn. Investigators later said the incident was connected to a broader check fraud operation involving multiple bank locations. But the investigation took another turn when officers searched her bag and allegedly discovered a loaded handgun with a round in the chamber. Police also determined that the firearm’s serial number had been altered, leading to additional charges. During the body camera footage, the woman repeatedly claimed the gun did not belong to her and said she had been set up after others involved reportedly left the scene.
