@drgreghealth: Here are the biggest health mistakes parents everywhere are passing down to their kids. I've been a functional medicine doctor for more than 25 years, and I'm a father of five. None of these are about bad intentions. Mistake one, modeling instead of teaching. Research consistently shows a child's diet quality tracks far more closely with what their parents actually eat in front of them than with anything they're told about nutrition. You can lecture about vegetables all day. If they rarely see you eat one, that's the lesson that sticks. Mistake two, treating screen time as a neutral babysitter. More screen time consistently displaces both movement and real food, and it opens the door to food marketing aimed straight at kids. Mistake three, reaching for antibiotics at the first sign of almost anything. Every unnecessary round disrupts a developing gut microbiome during the exact window it's supposed to be teaching a child's immune system what to tolerate and what to attack. Early disruption here is tied to higher rates of allergic and autoimmune conditions later. There's a time and place for antibiotics, and I believe they're being used too often. You don't need to be a perfect parent. You need to know which habits are actually being inherited. Find the root. Heal the whole.
If you have a doctor who throws antibiotics at everything, can you turn them down and say you’ll come back if they don’t recover on their own? Assuming it’s nothing actually serious
