Instead, Ellie found another note taped to our front door. “Some people return to our lives not to stay, but to remind us of who we once were.” I searched for him for weeks, but I never found him. And strangely, that became the lesson I needed most. We may forget the little kindnesses we give people… but someone else may carry them for the rest of their life. So never underestimate a kind word, a small gift, or a moment of love. You may think it meant nothing. But to someone else, it might have meant everything.

I work front desk at a clinic. I try to make everyone feel welcome, whether on the phone or in person, and maybe forget for a moment what troubles they have. I just scheduled someone for an appointment that we’d seen many years ago. They immediately remembered who I was and how I made them feel, so long ago. We both laughed and they said that they were looking forward to the appointment. It takes so little effort to be kind. I wish more would remember that.
