@senmumcheshire: 💯 Sen Parent judgement is 💯% real, people judge Sen parents and our children! Our Children are systematically negelcted and failed massively! Vulnerable children are failed constantly to the point they cant access school anymore! Not because they dont want to go but because they cant physically and mentally do it anymore! the high levels of trauma they have experienced has impacted there ability to access school! LA's water down EHCP'S fail our children constantly, parents are forced to watch our children be failed in every aspect of their life we are dismissed and judged when we raise concerns are We are refused communication and support from the council! a huge amount of Sen parents suffer PTSD! We are fighting for our childs rights! Lucy Powell states every child has a voice and should be heared sadly this hasnt been the case for my child or me! Have a look at my page for our experience our journey! 😊💯 Don't judge a Sen Parent we come in many forms ... The system is truely Broken! The lasting trauma this causes to our children to the point they cant even access education is unacceptable! We battle daily! Think what can be achieved if the correct level of support is provided if requirement is evidenced! This should be provided if proffesionally evidenced! Change is needed refection is needed! Hear our voices!!💜🌈 have a look at my page for our a reflection of our journey! I stand with you 💯
I was badly bullied but I was the one who was punished for truancy. I ended up developing CPTSD because no-one would help me. I'm 55 now, I hope kids are better supported, it ruined my whole life.

So true! My daughter struggled for four years, even with her diagnosis of autism and adhd the school blamed her! From the ages of 8-11! She was choosing to not go, when there she was choosing not try and do her work! No support. I fought for her EHCP, she spent a year out of education completely. I’ve finally got her in a specialist setting and this week she completes her first term. She is absolutely thriving! She hasn’t missed a day and is completing all her work! Oh, and also turns out she has dyslexia and dyscalculia! But no, she was just choosing to be like that!

It not just SEN children, my daughter really struggles to go to school. She isn’t happy there, she cries at bedtime about going the next day, she cried and refuses to go to school in the morning. It breaks my heart, her attendance percentage is low and I will be getting a fine soon. We have been through a lot as a family in the last year and the school do not care about her mental healthy, all they care about is her attendance percentage. They make no allowance for her because it’s mental health related. They make my life more difficult than it needs to be. It’s so upsetting for me too, I hate sending her to a place I know she hates and doesn’t feel comfortable

fines are ridiculous, they are just a tax on the poor as the richer parents can pay the fine no problems and private schools dont even get fined for taking children out in term time

the assumption is that every school refuser has a SEND issue, and unfortunately there are a lot of cases where it just stems to their homelife where no boundaries and a distrust of education is in place... I love this lady but I think she probably comes from a place of privilege, I doubt her kids attend a school from a low socio economical area where the reasons that children are missing from school are different to hers

Schools are outdated, they need a massive overhaul. Kids learn at different rates and in different ways and if you struggle they just write you off because they don't have the time to teach you.

My daughter has intermittent abscenes due to a severe chronic condition. The secondary school is unable to support her with resources to catch up on missed work. She enjoys school, but attends lessons confused and is experiencing educational regression. But school will not support her academically. Its cruel.

Schools don't see a single penny of a fine btw, its a government thing. But there's also a huge amount of kids whose parents let them not attend school for silly reasons and then it becomes chronic. Schools need funding to be better, simple.

Couldn’t agree more. And schools need SO much more in the way of resources. Def need to return to the drawing board, fundamentally change the system and reprioritise resources. From a Govt perspective, a vision without resource is simply fiction…

The bottom line is that all of these comments may be valid but schools cannot do any more without more money. Online learning, more pastoral support and interventions to create more accessibility all require teacher and support staff time. Without more pay or a reduction in other responsibilities you cannot reasonably ask that from school staff.
