Check out the stitching on this Edwardian S-Curve style corset! The “S” curve corset allegedly gets its name from the look of the silhouette. Allegedly. Someone on here knows more about this and please weigh in. A hallmark of this type of corset are the gussets on the bust and hips. These are very difficult to execute. I recently brought a modern factory owner to the museum and she informed me that the seams on these corsets are “mock flat felled.” No, they did not go through a flat-felling machine. The seams were pressed down and then topstitched to give the appearance (and stability) of a flat-felled seam. Clockwork Faerie, a corsetierre who I trust, shows a tutorial for this on her Youtube channel. TLDR: Sewing gussets is really, really hard. I feel emotionally connected to the woman who sewed this. you go, girl. This piece is at the New Mexico history museum in Santa Fe. The museum invites historians and reenactors to come view the textiles in their collection, just ask! If you’d like to see this item, the object ID is: 1439.45b . . #corset #victoriancorset #sewing #victoriansewing #seamstress #victorian
