This is why I'm finding enjoyment in the things I once considered a hobby. I stopped singing, dancing, running track or playing sports period because my parents made it hard to enjoy by doing THE MOST for THEIR image. They LOVED how THEY looked when I was doing something that pleases them and it happened to be things I enjoyed. If I didn't stop, they would have exploited me for my talents.

My mother. She was a (willing) victim and never felt her feelings or become her own person. While I was neglected. Now it’s as though she is an emotionally and intellectually stunted adult child.

The sad thing is that a toxic codependency and enmeshment forms and the only way it seems you can escape is going no contact for a while. They have to stop seeing you in that role.

Even though it’s good to push your child to be their best, I was pushed to accomplish things to fulfill my grandma’s wants. Not to actually further my own development. Once I became an adult, our relationship was strained because i started chasing my dreams instead of hers.
