My dads last meal was my first attempt at cutlets mashed potatoes and corn. He cleared almost the whole plate he made himself. He passed a week later

I’d give up 10 years of my life to get 3 more minutes with my dad. 3 months would be a lifetime

My dad had a chocolate fudge sundae. I wiped the chocolate out of his mustache after he passed.

My husband demanded a plate of spaghetti. He ate three bites, but those three bites looked like the best thing he ever tasted… he passed later that night.

Before my mom died, she ate a plate full of my homemade sweet potatoes. It was the last thing she ate before passing in in-home hospice. Meant the world to me then and means the world to me now.

shout out to the hospice nurses. My mom lost her battle to ovarian cancer earlier this year (and her birthday is later this month) and the hospice nurse who helped her was a sweetheart and was really helpful to our family in her final moments.

I remember when my uncle rallied and got out of bed to eat a fresh peach in the kitchen. I was just a kid and thought it meant he was getting better. He passed like a week later.

I’ve been a hospice MSW for 10 years - my most memorable patients are the ones who have an amazing meal, visit with a loved one, and then pass overnight with no transitioning or actively dying periods. That’s the way to do it.
